Visual and performing artists

Award
Up to $3,000

Deadline

Description from the Funder:

Created in 1993 to further FCA’s mission to encourage, sponsor, and promote work of a contemporary, experimental nature, Emergency Grants provide urgent funding for visual and performing artists who:
– Have sudden, unanticipated opportunities to present their work to the public when there is insufficient time to seek other sources of funding
– Incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates

Emergency Grants is the only active, multi-disciplinary program that offers immediate, project-based assistance of this kind to artists living and working anywhere in the United States, for projects occurring in the U.S. and abroad.

Each month FCA receives an average of 100 Emergency Grant applications and makes approximately 12-21 grants. Grants range in amount from $500 to $3,000, and the average grant is now $1,900. We recommend that artists review all of our eligibility guidelines and FAQs before applying. You may also complete our Eligibility Questionnaire, but please note that the questionnaire is not a substitute for a thorough review of program guidelines.

Grants are intended for a one-year period of time. The Foundation will review expenditures relating to an artist’s professional work and personal expenses and amounts range up to $50,000. New Music USA
Reel Change Film Fund

The fund assists US-based projects currently in production/post-production where additional support and/or mentoring would be beneficial to film composers who are at a pivotal point in their career in which the project will help them break through to the next stage of their profession.

Documentary film directors

Award
Exclusive workshops and industry access

Deadline

Taking place in the spring, the Documentary Story Lab helps directors craft the best story possible for their documentary film. Over the period of one week, participants attend multiple workshops and sessions with guest speakers, established documentary directors, institutional funders, legal professionals, festival programmers and distributors. Fellows are paired with an experienced Creative Advisor and Editing Advisor who provide one-on-one support. The Lab culminates in a final pitch event that offers further opportunity for individualized feedback and discussion with industry executives.

Photocrowd
Photography Competitions

Made of Stone:
Submitted images must show things that have been made using stone, rather than simply stone itself in nature or excavated. That most fundamental of materials, which for millennia has been used for our good. We build walls to house us, carve it in commemoration of the dead, we grind spices in stone bowls, sculpt art from it, and in the past ground our crops between huge wheels of it.

Deadline
December 27, 2023

Boats:
Water vessels of the smaller kind in this popular contest theme. Any kind of boat will do, from canoes to ferryboats, but there’s always the question of when a boat becomes a ship? We like the naval definition of a boat, which is a vessel capable of being carried on a ship, but for some kinds of larger boat this definition becomes a little strained. Common sense we’re sure will prevail!

Deadline
January 24, 2024

Windows:
An interesting subject to explore, windows are with us all the time. If you shoot architecture they form a part of the patterning and character of a building, often repetitive, the old ones sometimes ornate. In portraiture, looking out through them can become a symbol of longing, hope, or the future. They mark that boundary between our indoor life, of household or work, and the life we lead outdoors. All of your shots of windows are welcome in this contest.
