It’s that time again! We’re back with more grants and artist opportunities for you to check out in April. We’re constantly working to expand the range of opportunities for creatives and artists of all mediums. This month’s list features grants for culinary artists, jewelry makers, and sports photographers. Hopefully you find something for you or an artist that you know! San Francisco Film Festival
Rainin Grant

Description from the Funder:
The SFFILM Rainin Grant program is the largest granting body for independent narrative feature films in the US. Grants support films that address social justice issues—the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges—in a positive and meaningful way through plot, character, theme, or setting and benefit the Bay Area filmmaking community in a professional and economic capacity.

Awards are made to 15-20 projects once a year in the fall, for screenwriting, development, or post-production. In addition to a cash grant of up to $25,000, recipients secure a one month residency at FilmHouse and benefit from SFFILM’s comprehensive and dynamic artist development programs.

Art Writers Grant

Description:

The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports writing about contemporary art and aims to ensure that critical writing remains a valued mode of engaging with the visual arts. In its 2023 cycle the Arts Writers Grant has awarded a total of $935,000 to 27 writers.

Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—Articles, Books, and Short-Form Writing—these grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies.

Doug Pensinger Photography Fund

Grants for Sports Photographers

Description from the Funder:

The Doug Pensinger Photography Fund supports emerging and early-career sports photographers. Photographers with more than 3 years cumulative paid professional sports photography experience are considered beyond the scope of the DPPF’s programs. Previous DPPF grant recipients are not eligible to apply.

The DPPF is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity and to providing free merit-based access to its programs. The application process is not limited to U.S. citizens, although international candidates should be aware that the DPPF is not able to provide support that is prohibited under U.S. law.

Fiber Arts Now Magazine
Special Projects Grant

Fiber and textile artists

Description:
This grant supports special projects developed by artists that benefit the fiber community and/or the public. Funds may be applied to artist stipends, materials, equipment, or programming directly related to the project. Priority will be given to artists who have traditionally been underserved by the grantmaking community and to projects that focus on social equity.
